Masks could soon be optional for all students across South Florida

South Florida students can likely ditch their masks in the near future, no matter what grade they are in.

Masks became optional for all Palm Beach County students starting Monday. And a decision to end the mask mandate in Broward and Miami-Dade counties could be announced Tuesday. The question is whether the change will take effect within a few days or a few weeks.

The Broward School Board plans to revisit its mask policy at its Tuesday meeting, which is scheduled to start at 10:05 a.m. After initially requiring masks for all students, the School Board made them optional for high school students two weeks ago, citing older students’ ability to be fully vaccinated.
